A dental implant replaces a missing tooth beginning with an artificial tooth root. A screw-shaped implant is placed in the area of the missing tooth and, after it integrates with the jawbone, a replacement tooth is attached. Compared with removable dentures or conventional bridges, implants can feel more natural and help maintain the surrounding bone. Insurance coverage may be limited. We use Nobel Biocare implant systems, a widely used international system, with continuity of care in mind for patients who may later return to Japan.
